Maybelline Water Shiny Volumy Lipstick Review, Pictures, Swatches

This is currently my favorite lipstick. I love the texture, the color, the feel, and pretty much everything about it. Well, minus the fact that it's hard to obtain outside of asia.

The Maybelline Water Shiny Volumy lipstick (see on Maybelline Japan site) is a asia exclusive. I purchased it on good ol' Gmarket. I got it in shade #021, a shiny peachy nude shade. The website shows a pretty decent range of colors. It applies like a lipstick, is non-drying, and leaves a gloss like finish. I can see where the name comes from, it's wet and adds a pop to your lips. The packaging is nicer than any Maybelline offerings stateside, it's got a girly jewel like effect in the middle of the tube.

The price range is between $12-$15 depending on conversion rate. I remember being slightly cheaper on Gmarket but you'll have to tack on EMS shipping rates. I highly recommend this lipstick if you can find it. Here are more pictures and swatches:

Princess Lee and ES Lashes Review

Princess Lee lashes were an urban myth to me. It's mentioned in asian magazine and talk shows but I didn't see them at all when I was in asia. I tried looking for a supplier online and didn't come across any. So when KKCenterHK.com reached out to me to try some products from their online shop I went directly for the Princess Lee Lashes.

KKCenterHK.com is based in Hong Kong. They have a huge selection of lashes, wigs, and other beauty supplies. They do ship internationally but the shipping can take some time. It took about 2-3 weeks to get to New York from HK which isn't horrible considering the snow storms we've had the past two months.

I requested for the Princess Lee #6 and #8 lashes. I wasn't sure what to make of the Princess Lee lashes at first. They didn't look so special in the box, #6 and #8 are very similar with #8 being slightly bigger. It took me a few tries to really appreciate the lashes. The band is thin, comfortable, and durable. You can reuse them several times. The band also holds a curve very well and can be shaped. The lashes are dense and noticeable but not unnatural. I'm really amazed by the quality. They're listed for about $18 for 10 pairs on the website. Well worth it in my opinion.

All in all, I'm smitten. Princess Lee lives up to the hype.

They recommended that I give the ES lash series a try. The one I got is labeled A222. These lashes also very comfortable and easy to use. The lashes are dense, especially by the base. They're very durable and can be worn a few times too. I wish they were a little longer but that's not a flaw, the style I got wasn't my personal preference. I would highly recommend A222 to those that want something natural with added volume. These lashes are more affordable at around $12 for 10 pairs per box. I plan on going back to try longer ones from this series.

Here's the video I did for this:

Have you tried any Princess Lee or ES lashes that you love? Recommend me one or several!

Tight Curls and Brown Olive Look Of The Day

A half inch curler was in a bin in my bathroom for over a year without usage. It's not that I didn't like it, it's that I had forgotten that I even owned one. When I sorted through the bin over the weekend I took it out for a spin.

I wanted a gentler version of Taylor Swift's signature curls. The curling iron was left in each strand for about 5 second to prevent from over-curling. I let it cool off and straighten out a little before setting it with some hair spray.

As for makeup I went for a olive/brown toned shadow combo, spiky lashes, subdued cheeks and lips.

What's On My Face:
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base
Guerlain Parure Extreme #2
Dior SkinFlash as highlight
Gerulain Meteorites Powder in Mythic
Benefit Creaseless Cream in Skinny Jeans as a eye-base
Inglot eyeshadow DS502 all over lid and bottom outer corner
Inglot eyeshadow AMC Shine 462 as highlight
Paul & Joe Eyegloss #4 Halo on lower inner corner
Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Black
Coffret D'or loose powder blush OR25
Maybelline Water Volumy Lipstick (asia exclusive) #021 (I love this lipstick!)
Shisem Lashes

It's been a long and cold winter. I layer up a lot and wear a semi puffy vest underneath my jacket. Every time I walk outside I feel like my extremities are going to freeze and break off. In short, I can no wait for spring. What's the weather been like in your part of the world?

XOXO, M

P.S.: Is anyone going to the International Beauty Show (IBS) the weekend after? If so, won't you come say hello? I'll be at the Eve Pearl booth on Saturday (March 5th) :) If you're wondering what the event is like I have some posts on it, see here and here.

Inglot Cosmetics Intro, Review, Pictures, Prices, Video and FOTD

I've been meaning to try something from Inglot for the longest time. I first came across their store when they opened their boutique in the Time Square area. I later saw their booth at The Makeup Show. Both times I didn't have the time to get anything. I finally went back to the store a little over a month ago to get my first Freedom Palette.

Inglot is a Polish brand known for their "Freedom Palettes" which are essentially customizable palettes for anything they offer in pan form. They come in round pans or square pans some of which you can mix and match. For example, I did a round palette with 3 eye shades and 2 lip colors. You can do one with face powders/foundations and blushers. They have a wide selection of colors that you can see on their website. They currently only have a few stores around the U.S., you'll have to use their store locator to see if there's one by you.

I got a 5-pan round palette. It's $25 and I mixed 3 shadows with two lip colors to try out different products. The palette does not come with a brush or applicator but you can purchase one for extra. I also ended up getting a refill shadow on its own just to see if I can fit it into my MAC palette. It fits into a MAC palette but doesn't magnetize to it. Their shimmery shadows really do stand out from the rest. They have this gold reflect to them that's really lovely. The shadows are pigmented and easy to blend. I'd say that their shimmery shadows are rather unique and would get them over any other shadows they offer. The lip colors are just so-so, they have a wide range of colors that are pigmented but the formula is nothing special. What's really attractive is their price point and the wide range of products/colors they offer.

The current price point for their products is very reasonable. A single round shadow refill is $5 compared to MAC's single refill at $11. The round shadows are the same size as MAC and the square shadows they offer are bigger. I've scanned in pages from the brochures they have in store with the prices. Keep in mind that this is as of January 2011. I've heard rumors that they may raise their prices soon. You can click on the following images to see the larger scans:

I do recommend a trip to the Inglot store if there is one by you. It's a lot of fun to look through the makeup they have. The one in Manhattan is at the following address:

1592 Broadway
New York, NY 10036-1526
Tel: (212) 247-8170

Here are more product pictures and swatches plus a face of the day I did:

I personally love DS462 and DS502, they're super wearable and pretty. I've been wearing them frequently.

Here's a inglot shadow in a MAC palette. It fits perfectly fine but it's not magnetized to the palette.

Catena Anti Wrinkle and Firming Crystal Collagen Eye Mask Review

I stocked up on some Catena Anti Wriknle and Firming Crystal eye mask when it was in stock on SaSa. It's affordable very affordable, you get 6 sets of masks for about $5.

The masks come in trays and are jelly like in texture. There's a cooling sensation when you apply it making it a soothing experience. It effectively gets rid of puffiness and brightens up the skin a little. I leave it on for about 20 minutes each time and then apply my skincare products afterward. You can also do this mask before you put on your makeup if you have time to spare. The brightening bit helps concealing dark under eye circles.

In summary, thumbs up from me!

You may want to consider saving the tray that it comes with to make your own diy eye masks. BeautyQQ (I adore her) has a video on how to make them.

Here are more product pictures for your reference.

Have you tried these? What are your thoughts on them?

Rimmel Glam Eyes Quad Review, Swatches, FOTD

Rimmel released the Glam Eyes quads this Spring to replace their old quads (I think). I was intrigued by the new quads based on the good reviews I've read on the Glam Eyes single shadows and because the new packaging is appealing. There were several shades released and I picked up Sweet Smoulder for the pink shadow in the palette.

Sweet Smoulder #013 ($4.99) composes of a silver-white with a hint of blue, champagne gold, shimmery black, and shimmery pink. The texture and pigmentation varies depending on the shade. The top highlight silver-white blue is not pigmented and on the chalky side, it really doesn't do much as a highlight shade. The shimmery black isn't shimmery when used on the eye and a little hard to blend. The champagne gold and pink are the best of the bunch, smoother and more pigmented.

In summary, nice packaging but the shadow quality is lacking. I have additional product and swatch pictures as well as a face of the day I did using the palette below.

Wet n' Wild Sugar Plum Fairy FOTD, Quick Review

Wet 'n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy was a limited edition release from the holiday season. The palette retails for $4.99 and came with a liner pencil.

There was a frenzy around these holiday edition palettes as they contain a few dupes. Sugar Plum Fairy is noted for a NARS Mekong dupe in the darkest shade on the right column. I don't own Mekong, but the swatch on Noveau Cheap looks pretty close. Aside from NARS, there also appears to be a few MAC dupes. Makeup By Candie did a side by side comparison with a few MAC shadows on her blog.

The texture and pigmentation of this palette is consistent with their regular 6-pan palette; smooth, pigmented, and blend-able. There are some fallouts which I also experienced with the Lust palette I reviewed earlier. The liner pencil that came with the palette isn't really worth mentioning.

Here's my face of the day with this palette. I used almost all the shades except for that deep shade on the bottom right aka the NARS Mekong dupe:

A close up of the eye makeup. The lashes are Model 21 lashes (#36) from Model21eyelashes.com   I heart these lashes.

For base makeup I used the Skin 79 Super+ BB Cream. It contains SPF25 but photographs pretty well.

Do you have this palette? What do you think of it? Don't worry if you missed out on this palette, Wet n' Wild released some 8-pan palettes sold exclusively at Walgreens and Walmart that includes some of the shades in this palette. I haven't seen them myself yet but Turtle Beauty has lovely pictures of the palettes and swatches up on her blog.

Valentine's Day Nails ft. Nicole By OPI Justin Bieber Step 2 The Beat of My Heart

Justin Bieber is everywhere these days. He even has his own "One Last Lonely Girl" nail polish collection with Nicole By OPI. I was confused when I came across the collection but have to admit that the shades are cute. Me, being the girl that I am, went for the glittery hearts polish Step 2 The Beat of My Heart.

Step 2 The Beat of My Heart contains iridescent glitter with purple pink hearts glitter. Nicole by OPI released a similar polish with red hearts a while ago called Have A Heart. The polish is hard to work with but the hearts are very cute when in place. You'll have to fish out individual hearts and place them on your nails to achieve the desired effect.

I think this polish is perfect for Valentine's day. I used the following polishes for my nails:

OPI Start To Finish (as base and top coat)
Barry M Mulberry Pink
Nicole by OPI x Justin Bieber Step 2 The Beat Of My Heart
Canmake Pink/Purple glitter polish

One side of the heart glitter is pink and the other side is purple.
