Dabble Into TopShop Lacquer

Friends of mine were in town from Indiana and wanted to go shopping at TopShop in Soho. While they went through the clothing selection I found myself at the cosmetics counter. Some of their beauty range can be found online but the lacquers are currently only in store. I took the liberty to try some on of course. The formula is a bit thick and not the easiest to apply. Aside from the grey shade entitled "Cloud" most of their other shades are bright cremes or glittery/metallics. Overall, at $10 (8ml) a bottle I wasn't impressed enough to purchase.

Current Love: Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss in Coral Reef

Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss in Coral Reef ($7-$8 depending on drugstore) is my current lip obsession. I can't stop wearing it. The color can't be more perfect for the summer. The formula is non sticky, it applies super smooth, and the pigmentation is awesome. If you don't have this get it now, seriously, now.

I heart thee!

Summer Hair Cut

Where did I go for a much needed last minute hair cut? K-Town! It was Sunday afternoon and I had just finished brunch with Cuttibebe. She recommended Kim Sun Young Salon after I asked for a K-Town place to try.

It was my very first time and the experience was pretty decent. I traded in my long thick hair for a slightly shorter layered look. I did a side part instead of my usual middle part. For $50 plus tips it's not so bad. I went in on a rainy Sunday afternoon without a reservation and had someone cut my hair without a wait. My stylist was Soyo Shin, she's totally sweet and is attentive to what you ask for. It was a quick no frills cut, the entire process (wash, cut, dry) took about 45 minutes.

Where:
Kim Sun Young
30 West 32nd St. 2nd Flor

You can make reservations with them just in case either via phone or web.

Summer Corals FOTD

A summery look for the not so tan...

Tanning is hard. I don't have the time or really the dedication to get it right. So when the summer months rolls around and I'm still ghastly pale, I reach for bright glowy corals. I have on Cargo blush in Sunset Beach all over the cheeks and Revlon Super Lustrous gloss in Coral Reef on my lips.

Do you have a go-to summer color?

MAC Stereo Rose FOTD

There was plenty of hoopla surrounding MAC Stereo Rose so I grabbed one without trying it on first (It looked pretty enough in the pan for me to do that). I immediately used it when I got home to see what the buzz was all about. Sadly, I was slightly disappointed. Maybe my expectations for it was too high because of all the hype? Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely blush but not worth all the trouble to obtain. If it's readily available? Sure! But that wouldn't be good marketing now would it?

Stereo Rose is a coral with a touch of pink topped off with a pretty gold sheen, perfect for the summer months. It gives you a nice natural blush-y look and is suitable for a wide range of skin tones. I can't say that it's my favorite shade ever nor is it the most unique. I like it but don't love it.

MAC In The Groove Mineralized Skinfinish Powders: Stereo Rose, By Candlelight, Comfort, Petticoat Review & Swatches

MAC's In The Groove Mineralized Skinfinish powders caused quite a stir upon release because of the much thought after (almost mythical status) Stereo Rose. Four MSFs were released with this collection, all of them are re-releases. I thought I was going to just stick with just Stereo Rose but ended up falling for By Candlelight too.

While at the MAC counter I swatched all of them:

Left to right: Comfort, By Candlelight, Petticoat, Stereo Rose

Left to right: Comfort, By Candlelight, Petticoat, Stereo Rose

Thoughts
  • Even though Stereo Rose caused a beauty frenzy I was in love with the subtle beauty of By Candlelight. By Candlelight has just the right sheen shimmer ratio and can be used as a blusher or a highlighter depending on your skin tone

  • I noticed that Petticoat in this collection is actually a deeper and warmer tone than the previous version

  • Comfort is a buildable blusher that can dual as a bronzer. It's not so shimmery for a MSF but has a soft sheen to it instead
Did you pick up MSF(s) from this collection? If so which is your favorite?

Ardell Demi Wispies Review, Photos

Found! Ardell Demi Wispies ($4)! I've been hearing about these lashes for the longest time but only came across them last week for the first time (I'm probably shopping at the wrong places?). At first glance they look natural yet batty, not too dense, and set on invisible bands. It had try me written all over it!

They have a natural glamour look to them, the invisible band blends in really well

The Verdict?
These are great lashes to add some volume to your eyes. The overall appearance isn't over the top so it goes well with both natural and dramatic eye makeup. The band is soft enough to shape to your eyes making it easy to use and comfortable to wear. It was meant to achieve a sultry look with longer lashes at the outer corner (good for smoky eyes).

My lash obsession is never ending. I'm still debating lash extensions, has anyone tried?

Essie Chinchilly Review & Swatch

Essie did well with Chinchilly. It's a creme grey taupe with the slightest hint of green, it's really sort of perfect. The thin formula provides for a smooth application with just the right amount of shine. I lovey lovey loves it much! I have on two coats plus top coat.

Fluttery Lash Look with Ardell 138 Falsies, Review, Photos

My lash deficiency led me to these Ardell 138 lashes ($3.50-$5 at drugstores). They appear so fluttery and batty in the container that I just had to try them.

I did a test run with them on this past weekend and really like the way they look. It's just too bad that they're not the most comfortable lashes to have on. The band is stiff making it hard to get it exactly where you want it. I even tried bending it a few times before applying and it didn't help.

These lashes give you instant batty eyes once on.

Random note to self, I suck at asian poses

The verdict?
I really wanted to like these lashes. They look great for a night out but the thick band and lack of flexibility really bothers me. They're probably good for a night event for a short period of time.

You may want to skip out on these if you're a beginner false lash user, the ease of application just isn't there. Instead, try Ardell #110, they're easy to use and looks great!

Has anyone else tried these? I'd love to hear what your thoughts!

What's on my face? (in case you're curious)
- Eve Pearl HD Dual foundation in Fair
- Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer trio
- MAC Copperplate, Ricepaper, and Vanilla Eyeshadows
- K-Palette black liquid liner
- Urban Decay 24/7 liner in zero for tightlining
- Cargo Blush in Sunset Beach
- Benefit lipstick in Jing-A-Ling topped with Eve Pearl gloss in Honey Bunny

Status Update #1

What's been keeping me busy...

The Happenings

- I signed the closing documents to my apartment last week. It was a long and painful process (about 4 months) but well worth it. I actually ended up buying the apartment I've been renting for the past three years. Yes, it all does feel a little like Carrie Bradshaw a la Sex and the City.

- What's next? Renovations! The fun never stops.

- I started a new job about three months ago. I'm back in finance and the craziness never stops. Kill me now.

- My beloved furball Charlotte turns four on the 12th of this month. My little girl is growing up so quick. We'll still celebrate puppy style of course, complete with pup cakes (doggy cupcakes)

- I have loads of food pics to upload. Like, seriously, I need to get on it.

- What's a beauty blog without some makeup/skincare note? I'll leave you with my current favorites:
  • Shu Uemura Phyto-Black Anti Wrinkle Lip & Eye Cream
  • Dior Snow White Reveal Essence
  • Mentholatum Acnes U Creamy Wash
  • Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush
  • K-Palette liquid black eyeliner
  • Sally Hansen Wet Cement varnish
  • Summer pedicures!
